Goldman Sachs Really, Really Likes Kinder Morgan

The market is getting hammered today. Shares of Kinder Morgan (KMI), however, have bucked the trend thanks to a positive report from Goldman Sachs.

Reuters

Goldman Sachs analyst Theodore Durbin and team explain why they added Kinder Morgan to their Conviction Buy List:

After a large wave of long-haul natural gas pipeline construction across North America in the 2007-2011 timeframe, construction has slowed significantly over the last several years. We believe the midstream industry is now entering a new wave of long-haul natural gas infrastructure investment focused on supply and demand opportunities, including Appalachia takeaway, gas-fired power generation, LNG, and Mexico exports. As the largest gas pipeline operator in North America, we expect Kinder Morgan will win multiple growth projects in coming years. Kinder has identified $15bn of potential natural gas growth projects, of which only $2.7bn is in its current backlog as of its late January analyst day, and we therefore see large potential upside to its organic growth capital spending in gas alone.

Kinder also provides well diversified, highly stable, fee-based cash flows and solid 8-10% annual dividend growth. We believe shares are attractively valued on an absolute basis, and relative to peer midstream C-corps.

Shares of Kinder Morgan have gained 0.9% at 3:02 p.m. today, while Kinder Morgan Partners (KMP) has risen 0.6% to $75.42.

Barron’s, by the way, is not a fan of Kinder Morgan.

Top 5 Life Sciences Companies To Watch In Right Now

My top idea for conservative, income-oriented investors in the coming year is a closed-end fund that invests in public and privately-held companies doing work in the life sciences arena, writes Nate Pile of Nate's Notes.

The life sciences industry includes stocks in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, managed healthcare and medical equipment, and healthcare information technology and services.

This recommended fundambrecht & Quist Life Sciences Fund (HQL)as also our top pick last year, and the fund rose 44% in 2013.

In addition to rising in value, the fund has a dividend policy of paying out 2% of its net asset value of each quarter.

By choosing to take this payout in the form of a dividend reinvestment, rather than cash, investors have done very well for themselves as they've watched, both the size of their holdings, and the share price itself, increase as the years have rolled by.

To be sure, you will always be able to get more bang for your buck by owning individual biotech stocks.

Top 5 Life Sciences Companies To Watch In Right Now: Jack In The Box Inc.(JACK)

Advisors' Opinion:

A more expansive menu that allowed breakfast to be served all day could mean bigger profits for McDonald's -- but let face it: That's really been Jack in the Box's (NASDAQ: JACK  ) territory since day one. While Jack in the Box has made no qualms about emulating McDonald's interior redesigns and menu expansion in order to boost its own sales, it's been the company's promotion of its all-day breakfasts that make it one of the fastest growing fast-food restaurants in the United States.

That's what we do with this series. Today, we're checking in on Jack in the Box (Nasdaq: JACK  ) , whose recent revenue and earnings are plotted below.

  • [By Jeremy Bowman]

    Noodles and burritos
The real appeal of Noodles and Company seems to come from its ambitious expansion plan. In its S-1 filing, management says it believes the company's store count can grow from 339 stores today to 2,500 in 15-20 years. There's no question that management can continue opening stores, but the company needs to be able to maintain enough appeal to make the expansion profitable. Jack in the Box (NASDAQ: JACK  ) , by comparison, has over 2,500 restaurants nationwide, including 600 Qdoba Mexican Grills, yet its market cap sits at just $1.8 billion, a similar valuation to the much smaller Noodles. Notably, Qdoba was once hailed as the successor to Chipotle, but its parent company recently announced it would close 67 underperforming locations of the burrito chain because of declining same-store sales.

    The last fast-food chains standing
If Jack in the Box (NASDAQ: JACK  ) and Wendy's (NASDAQ: WEN  ) can manage to go a few weeks without sticking their foot in the their mouth, they both have a shot at picking up market share based on these PR gaffes from McDonald's and Burger King.

Super Bowl ads: Anything could happen

NEW YORK (AP) — Super Bowl advertisers are finally about to see their efforts play out on the industry's biggest stage Sunday night. But as they've learned in the past, anything can happen.

Companies including Coca-Cola, Mars and Nestle have spent the past several days trying to drum up hype for their big-money ads, in some cases by releasing teasers online. Anheuser-Busch InBev even hosted a viewing party aboard a cruise ship docked at a New York City pier, which was transformed into a floating "Bud Light Hotel," complete with escargot, duck and cheesecake on the menu.

Still, Super Bowl advertisers know the unexpected can happen. And when it does, they have to be ready.

MORE: Super Bowl 2014 Ad Meter

One of the most memorable moments from last year's game, for example, was a tweet from Oreo. After a blackout hit the stadium, the company posted an image of an Oreo cloaked in darkness with the tagline "You can still dunk in the dark."

It got more than 10,000 retweets on Twitter within an hour.

The power of a traditional Super Bowl ad is nothing to sneeze at, of course, with companies shelling out an estimated $4 million for a 30-second spot. It's not just money on the line. More than 100 million people have tuned into the game in recent years, making it one of the most watched events in the country's TV history.

Even for companies that release their ads on YouTube early, though, nobody really knows how they'll go over during the game. Chrysler and Coca-Cola are among the companies keeping at least one of their spots under wraps too. And of course, anything can happen during the match between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks, or the halftime show starring Bruno Mars. Remember Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction?

Here's a peek at some highlights of tonight's Super Bowl ad action.

______

FIRST UNSCHEDULED TIME-OUT: CHEERIOS FAMILY ADDS A NEW MEMBER

If the faces in the Cheerios ad look familiar, there's a reason.

The biracial f! amily was also featured in an ad that made headlines last year after it sparked ugly comments online. The remarks were subsequently eclipsed by an outpouring of support.

General Mills, which owns Cheerios, says it was looking to reflect the changing U.S. population when it cast the roles for the fictional family, made up of a black dad, a white mom and their daughter. In the new spot, the dad tells the little girl that she has baby brother on the way.

If the ad is popular enough, perhaps General Mills will keep following the family's story line for years to come. Just picture it: the little girl as a sullen teenager sitting at the breakfast table, refusing to talk to her exasperated parents. Fade to black as they eat their Cheerios in silence.

______

FIRST QUARTER: BUD LIGHT'S FEAR OF MISSING OUT

How important is the Super Bowl to Bud Light? The beer has three ads airing during the game.

In case that wasn't enough, it also has a massive party ship docked at a New York pier with the words "THE BUD LIGHT HOTEL" emblazoned on the side. The ship is on loan from Norwegian Cruise Lines and is serving as a base for more than 3,000 guests. After taking control of it earlier this week, Anheuser Busch slapped its Bud Light logo on just about everything in less than 24 hours, down to the tiny shampoo bottles in the cabins.

Even crew members' uniforms have Bud Light stitched onto the sleeves.

Tucked away in a room aboard the ship on Sunday will be Bud Light's "social command center," complete with giant flat screen TVs and computers to monitor whatever may be happening.

In case the 18-member team is second-guessing a tweet it dreams up, Anheuser Busch says its legal team will be on call for consultation.

_______

SECOND QUARTER: STEPHEN COLBERT GETS CRACKIN'

Goodbye Psy, hello "freeberty."

Wonderful Pistachios is back for its second straight Super Bowl ad. This time, the 15-second spots will star funnyman Stephen Colbert, who's known for making up words such as "truthiness" and "freeberty" (presumably a mash-up of freedom and liberty, two of his favorite things). The ads launch a yearlong sponsorship deal featuring the tagline "Get Crackin', America."

Roll Global, which also owns Fiji Water and POM Wonderful juice, says its Super Bowl ad last year starring Korean pop singer Psy was a huge hit, with sales up 18 percent year over year.

Good for them, but some viewers are getting a little tired of that horsey dance.

New York City dwellers may have already noticed teasers for the ads starring Colbert playing on TV screens in the back of taxis over the past week.

_____

SECOND HALF: BOB DYLAN VERSUS JOHN STAMOS

Chobani may feature a Bob Dylan song in its ad, but rival Oikos has Full House star John Stamos — better known as Uncle Jesse to fans of the sitcom.

In Chobani's big game debut, the tune of "I Want You" plays as an angry bear ransacks a country store for something good to eat.

Meanwhile, Dannon's Oikos ad shows Stamos sitting with a woman who seductively licks some stray yogurt from his finger, then his upper lip. The scene heats up when some yogurt falls on his lap — but the moment is ruined when fellow Full House stars Bob Saget and Dave Coulier interrupt with offer to clean it up.

For those who didn't watch Full House: the joke is that Saget's character was a clean freak. As daughter Michelle would say...How rude.

______

FOURTH QUARTER: SCARLETT JOHANSSON'S POLITCALLY CHARGED FIZZY WATER

Wh! o knew se! ltzer could be so controversial?

SodaStream's ad starring the actress Scarlett Johansson has already gotten plenty of attention for the soda machine maker. The ad prompted the "Her" star cut ties with Oxfam International, which took issue with SodaStream's large factory in an Israeli West Bank settlement.

Meanwhile, Oxfam is planning to bring attention to another issue during the game: Pepsi's "land grabs" in countries such as Brazil and Cambodia, where it says the company's sugar suppliers have robbed farmers of their rights and kicked them off their land.

Oxfam says it has about 1,000 people signed up to tweet and post on Facebook during the game.

Hot Forestry Companies To Own For 2015

When looking for promising candidates for your stock portfolio, certain big names might easily come to mind, such as IBM, General Electric, or Coca-Cola. But there are plenty of other possibilities, many of which we often overlook.

Consider supermarket giant Kroger (NYSE: KR  ) , for example. You might be inside one of its stores, thinking about investing in the companies that produce the items it sells (pudding, chicken, paper towels), without thinking of investing in the market itself. You might want to add Kroger stock to your portfolio, though. Why? Well, check this out: Kroger stock has appreciated by more than 50% over the past year. It has gained, on average, about 14.4% annually over the past 30 years, enough to turn $10,000 into about $566,000.

Of course, that's not enough to base an investment decision on, so let's take a closer look at the Kroger company and Kroger stock.

Meet Kroger
Kroger was launched in 1883, fully 130 years ago, when Barney Kroger put his life savings of $372 into a Cincinnati grocery store. Kroger stores were the first to have their own bakeries, which reduced the cost of bread for shoppers. Kroger was also the first to sell meats along with groceries in the same building. The company still makes many of its own products -- almost half of the 14,400 private-label products in its stores. These generate 26% of Kroger's grocery sales and boost its profit margins, as name-brand products tend to be more expensive at the wholesale level, in part due to manufacturers investing in advertising.

Advisors' Opinion:

What: After a two-day run-up in solar stocks, the party ended quickly, and every stock in the industry is dropping like a rock. Suntech Power (NYSE: STP  ) led the declines by falling 23%, and LDK Solar (NYSE: LDK  ) , Yingli Green Energy (NYSE: YGE  ) , and JA Solar (NASDAQ: JASO  ) all dropped at least 15%.

  • [By Travis Hoium]

    Is Suntech still alive?
Rumors swirled this week that Suntech Power (NYSE: STP  ) would be acquired by Warren Buffett's subsidiary MidAmerican Energy. Suntech has defaulted on U.S. loans, and its Chinese operations are in insolvency, so it's unknown exactly what Buffett would be buying. Then there's the fact that Suntech doesn't meet any of Buffett's normal investing rules, so there are few industry observers who think an acquisition would go through.

    Monday's Volume: 838,000

    Three-Month Average Volume: 202,080

    Volume % Change: 378%

From a technical perspective, IPHI jumped higher here right above some near-term support at $12.44 with heavy upside volume. This stock has been uptrending strong for the last five months, with shares soaring higher from its low of $8.62 to its intraday high of $13.85. During that uptrend, shares of IPHI have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move briefly pushed shares of IPHI into breakout territory, since the stock flirted with some near-term overhead resistance at $13.50.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in IPHI as long as it's trending above some near-term support at $12.44 and then once it sustains a move or close above its new 52-week high at $13.85 with volume that hits near or above 202,080 shares. If we get that move soon, then IPHI will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that move are its next major overhead resistance levels at $14.79 to $16.94, or possibly even $18.

Navidea Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. (Navidea), formerly Neoprobe Corporation, incorporated in 1983, is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of precision diagnostic agents. As of December 31, 2011, the Company radiopharmaceutical development programs included Lymphoseek (Lymphoseek, Kit for the Preparation of Technetium Tc99m for Injection), a radiopharmaceutical agent for lymph node mapping; AZD4694, an imaging agent, and RIGScan, a tumor antigen-specific targeting agent. In January 2012, the Company executed an option agreement with Alseres Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Alseres) to license [123I]-E-IACFT Injection, also called Altropane, an Iodine-123 radiolabeled imaging agent, being developed as an aid in the diagnosis of Parkinson disease, movement disorders and dementia. In August 2011, the Company sold its gamma detection device line of business (the GDS Business) to Devicor Medical Products, Inc.

Lymphoseek

Navidea pipeline includes clinical-stage radiopharmaceutical agents used to identify the presence and status of disease. Lymphoseek (Kit for the Preparation of Technetium Tc99m for Injection) is a lymph node targeting agent intended for use in intraoperative lymphatic mapping (ILM) procedures and lymphoscintigraphy employed in the overall diagnostic assessment of certain solid tumor cancers. The lymph system is a component of the body immune system. The key components of the lymph system are lymph nodes-small anatomic structures that contain disease-fighting lymphocytes, filter lymph of bacteria and cancer cells, and signal infection in response to heightened levels of pathogens. In Navidea Phase III clinical studies of Lymphoseek, it detected over 99% of positive nodes identified by vital blue dye (VBD). As of December 31, 2011, Navidea, in co-operation with UC, San Diego affiliate (UCSD), completed or initiated five Phase I clinical trials, one multi-center Phase II trial and three multi-center Phase II trials inv! olving Lymphoseek. Two Phase III studies were completed in subjects with breast cancer and melanoma. During the year ended December 31, 2011, data from NEO3-09 were released, which indicated that all primary and secondary endpoints for the study were met. As of December 31, 2011, third Phase III clinical trial for Lymphoseek in subjects with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (NEO3-06) was in progress.

AZD4694

AZD4694 is a Fluorine-18 labeled precision radiopharmaceutical candidate for use in the imaging and evaluation of patients with signs or symptoms of cognitive impairment such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). It binds to beta-amyloid deposits in the brain that can then be imaged in positron emission tomography (PET) scans. Amyloid plaque pathology is a required feature of AD and the presence of amyloid pathology is a supportive feature for diagnosis of probable AD. Patients who are negative for amyloid pathology do not have AD. AZD4694 has been studied in several clinical trials. Clinical studies through Phase IIa have included more than 80 patients to date, both suspected AD patients and healthy volunteers. No significant adverse events have been observed. Results suggest that AZD4694 has the ability to image patients quickly and safely with high sensitivity.

RadioImmunoGuided Surgery

As of December 31, 2011, RIGScan had been studied in a number of clinical trials, including Phase III studies. Navidea has conducted two Phase III studies, NEO2-13 and NEO2-14, of RIGScan in patients with primary and metastatic colorectal cancer, respectively. Both studies were multi-institutional involving cancer treatment institutions in the United States, Israel, and the European Union.

The Company competes with Pharmalucence, Eli Lilly, Bayer Schering, General Electric and GE Healthcare.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Sean Williams]

Diagnostics can also play an important role in early and late-stage breast cancer diagnoses. Navidea Biopharmaceuticals (NYSEMKT: NAVB  ) had Lymphoseek, its external lymph-node imaging and intra-operative lymphatic mapping diagnostic device, approved by the Food and Drug Administration earlier this year to help doctors stage cancer. Discovering whether breast cancer has invaded adjacent lymph nodes has never been easier or safer thanks to Lymphoseek, and it can dramatically aid physicians in determining the best course of action for breast cancer patients.

  • [By Lauren Pollock]

Navidea Biopharmaceuticals Inc.(NAVB) said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted a priority review for an expanded use of its Lymphoseek drug for some patients with head and neck cancer. Shares dropped 5.4% to $1.97 premarket.

  • [By Lauren Pollock]

Among the companies with shares expected to actively trade in Tuesday’s session are Toll Brothers Inc.(TOL) and Navidea Biopharmaceuticals Inc.(NAVB)

  • [By Sean Williams]

Another prime example here would be Navidea Biopharmaceuticals' (NYSEMKT: NAVB  ) Lymphoseek which is an injectable agent used in external lymph-node imaging and intra-operative lymphatic mapping. In English this means it will dramatically improve the staging and treatment options for patients with breast cancer. Being that breast cancer was also listed as a commonly misdiagnosed cancer, this is a big step in the right direction for patient care.

Wynn Resorts (NASDAQ: WYNN  ) could be a very strong dividend bet. In the! most recent quarter, Wynn management raised the quarterly dividend payouts, and also announced a special dividend of $1.00. The stock now pays $6.00 per share per year.

There's a lot of uncertainty in the industry right now, especially for those with exposure to Macau, the world's largest gaming market. Gambling by high rollers has fallen off a cliff in the past six months due in part to a crackdown on corruption within Mainland China, and partly due to a general slowing of Asia's economic growth. As a result, gaming companies like Wynn Resorts (NASDAQ: WYNN  ) , Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS  ) , and Melco Crown (NASDAQ: MPEL  ) , who get most or all of their revenue from Macau have seen their stocks drop.

Two of the biggest luxury auto brands in the world are throwing their respective hats into the electric-car ring. In one corner is BMW's (NASDAQOTH: BAMXF  ) i3. In the other corner is Daimler's (NASDAQOTH: DDAIF  ) Mercedes-Benz B-Class. So, which one will end up the EV winner?

We talk a lot about the growing middle class in China, but the growing wealth of the rich elite is also a valuable market. Luxury automakers know this well and have been reacting with billions in investment. Late last month, Daimler AG (NASDAQOTH: DDAIF  ) announced that it and its joint-venture partner would spend 1 billion euros to double production of Mercedes-Benz vehicles. This comes as demand for Mercedes-Benz vehicles continues to rise, with deliveries rising 57% in the first two months of this year.

Luxury goods companies such as Ralph Lauren (NYSE: RL), Michael Kors (NASDAQ: KORS) and Mercedes Benz (OTC: DDAIF) count on China for increasing sales. And among the most desired items by Chinese consumers are handbags and other accessories from Coach Inc (NYSE: COH).

General Motors shares trade for just 8.7 times expected 2014 earnings and an almost pitiful 0.37 times sales. To put this in perspective, Daimler (DDAIF) — my pick in InvestorPlace's Best Stocks of 2013 contest — trades for 14.3 times expected 2014 earnings and 0.58 times sales.

Adopting ESG factors to improve returns, reduce risk

social

Over the last twenty years, the social investing industry has grown and changed. It has moved from “negative screening,” such as divesting from South Africa or excluding “sin stocks” from the portfolio, to a more positive approach that favors good companies and can even improve companies through shareholder advocacy and lobbying.

Socially responsible investing (SRI) has also attracted more investors. According to US SIF (The Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment), SRI assets under management are up 22% from 2010 through 2012, to $3.74 trillion. Since 1995, SRI assets have grown faster than professionally managed assets as a whole .

Whenever an area gains popularity so quickly, there is always the chance that money managers will offer products just to profit from the trend, not out of a genuine belief in the approach. Unfortunately, we find that there are strategies out there today that are “greenwashing” – marketing themselves as environmentally friendly when in fact their ESG criteria are not very strict. We also see a number of products being launched that may have good intentions, but may not have a good, disciplined investment process.

At Federal Street, we help clients navigate this landscape, finding managers with strong financial and social research capabilities. In the process, we've noticed that many of the evaluation factors that SRI managers use also provide valuable insight into the overall financial health and performance of companies.

The broader investment industry is coming around to the same opinion. Without identifying themselves as “social investors,” many forward-thinking investment professionals have begun looking at environmental, social, and governance practices as important factors when evaluating investments.

For example, they may notice that resource scarcity can create growth opportunities for companies with solutions to improve efficiency or replace fossil fuels. They may consider whether a company's poor record on labor practices could result in costly disruptions from a strike or regulatory action, or a consumer boycott. They may question whether a board's structure allows it to make the best decisions for all of the company's stakeholders.

From academics to investment managers to watchdogs, people in all corners of the investment industry have begun including ESG as a genuine consideration. The change has been less visible than the explosive growth in the SRI industry, but has a larger and more fundamental impact on capital markets.

ESG factors are being used as part of competitive analysis and fundamental analysis.

One indication that ESG factors are being adopted by the broader investment community is that Michael Porter, creator of the influential “Porter's Five Forces” framework used by many traditional stock analysts, recommends incorporating these factors when assessing the competitive position of a company. When Porter highlighted the need for corporate social responsibility to be considered in the analysis of competitive advantage, it legitimized ESG analysis for many mainstream investment professionals. In a 2011 article, Porter says, “The opport! unity to create economic value through creating societal value will be one of the most powerful forces driving growth in the global economy.”

In turn, money managers are including these factors as data points that can help decide whether or not they buy the stock of a particular company. Looking at ESG trends can help investors find areas of growth, identify companies that are cutting costs by being more efficient, and avoid reputational and economic risks.

Investors have begun to formally incorporate ESG factors in their research process.

There are increasingly high-profile examples of the shift to include ESG factors as a way to boost returns. Wellington Management, an investment firm headquartered in Boston, MA that manages more than $750 billion in client assets, recently acknowledged that ESG factors are increasingly important to consider when managing portfolios and risk. Wellington is a large, traditional investment firm that has developed tools to analyze ESG information because it believes it can improve the investment process. To Wellington, “The motivation for ESG integration is simple: to increase financial returns while upholding the fiduciary duty to incorporate any known risks into the investment process.”

Other large, well-known asset managers have made similar moves, also for economically-driven reasons. Vanguard and BlackRock have both discussed plans to engage with hundreds of companies on governance issues. Pensions & Investments, a leading industry journal, profiled this effort, interviewing BlackRock's global head of corporate governance and responsible investment. According to the article, “'BlackRock's global corporate governance team is part of the company's investment function as opposed to the compliance or legal department,' Ms. Edkins noted. 'We think good governance adds value long-term,' she added.”

The Beginning of the End for Facebook

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- I've never been a big fan of Facebook (FB), definitely not the stock, and perhaps to a lesser extent, the application. The stock is ridiculously priced at 208 times trailing earnings, 48 times 2014 consensus earnings estimates, more than 10 times book value, and 18 times revenue. Keep in mind that these sentiments are from a value investor, who simply can't fathom those multiples, and growth investors would make the argument that those measures are irrelevant in Facebook's case. [Read: Dramatic 48-Hour Shift in Apple Sentiment] Indeed, the stock has been on a tear since mid-July, following a better-than-expected quarter after an aggressive push into mobile advertising, and shares are up nearly 80% since then. The stock has finally managed to eclipse its intraday high of $45 from its very first day of trading on May 12, 2012. The company now boasts of having more than 1 million advertisers; that's impressive, and one of the reasons that investors are re-engaged.

FB ChartFB data by YCharts

There is no doubt that some investors have made money from owning the stock, and I am not discounting the possibility that shares may run even higher. We've seen countless examples of overvalued companies continuing to head higher, well beyond their true value. It's yet another example of the inefficiencies that make the markets and investor psychology so fascinating. Investors will continue to buy names, such as Facebook, that are priced for perfection.

Top 5 Retail Stocks To Own For 2016

In the past few days, two things happened, neither of which relates to the company's financials, that have me again questioning Facebook's prospects. Granted these are completely anecdotal in nature, and their relevance is more from the gut, than from the mind. In fact, I was not even planning on writing about Facebook today, but can't help myself. The first thing was an article in our newspaper entitled "Facebook's Fall From Cool," written by a local high school student. In the article, the young author proclaims that Facebook has become an "obligation," as opposed to a "source of entertainment." Now, that may be nothing new. The article itself caused me to quiz my own teenagers, who told me in no uncertain terms, that kids have turned away from Facebook, and would rather use Twitter or Instagram. [Read: Understanding Obamacare: 4 Things You Need to Know ] Now, the fact that Facebook bought Instagram last September is certainly not lost on me. The question is, when will the kids also tire of Instagram, and what will take its place? Perhaps Facebook will be the force behind the next hot social media application, but that is presuming a lot.

The second thing that happened, which has dampened the little enthusiasm I had remaining for Facebook itself, was a series of posts by one of my own Facebook friends, who is a very decent guy.

Two days ago, he mentioned that he'd be undergoing a colonoscopy, likening it to April 15 -- tax day. That was fine, actually funny, but still much more than I, or anyone else needs to know.

Then late yesterday came the recap of the procedure, four paragraphs worth. Too much information, and enough to sour me from logging on, and reading about anyone's latest medical exploits, or how little Billy can now recite pi out to 400 decimals. They should perhaps rename it "Bragbook," or "TooMuchInformationIDon'tCareAboutBook."

Mark Zuckerberg has publicly stated that he never intended for Facebook to be cool. But I can't help but question the growing, albeit anecdotal, sentiment of Facebook fatigue. This does not mean that the company won't continue to earn millions of dollars. It just means, that in my view, it is hard to make the case that the company, currently valued at $112 billion, is worth more than either McDonald's (MCD), or Home Depot (HD), or DuPont (DD) and Walgreen (WAG) combined. There's often a disconnect between price and value, and we may once again be seeing it here. My gut could certainly be wrong, it would not be the first time. JPMorgan’s John Bridges and team think it’s time for investors to start looking for entry points in quality coal miners like Cloud Peak Energy (CLD), Consol Energy (CNX) and Peabody Energy (BTU). They explain why:

The enemy (high yield financing) of your enemy (natural gas) is coal friend: The international coal market remains weak, but we are hopeful that the funding problems the shale revolution has begun to face in the US will lead to a more balanced US gas market and better prospects for coal. While geology is fixed and the fracking technology cannot be uninvented, it unrealistic to expect low-cost finance to endure.
